Torremolinos, March 26, 2021.

The Councilor for Culture of the Torremolinos City Council, David Tejeiro, today presented the new workshops aimed at the young population of the municipality, courses that are going to be taught at the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Center, and which begin next April 16 with a session focused on comics and continues on May 14 with a class focused on artist Keith Haring.

The event was also attended by Begoña Cerrillo, director of the Artenanos school, who will be in charge of teaching the classes that will run until February next year. These first two workshops will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and interested persons can reserve one of the 15 places from today by sending an email to the address Bibliotecapicasso@torremolinos.es or by calling 952 385 182.

Tejeiro has reported that in the comic workshop "the participants will know some keys to be able to develop their characters (heroes and villains) by creating a brief story between them that they will capture in a template of vignettes that we will provide in the workshop." "Our intention is that this activity is linked to the comic contest that we have underway and whose deadline for submitting proposals we have extended beyond April 16 to further open participation," said the councilor.

The mayor responsible for Culture has also warned that "normally in this type of workshops all places are sold out, so I invite all the boys and girls who are interested to make their reservation as soon as possible."

The comic workshop is aimed at young people between the ages of 12 and 16 and is an eminently practical course in which they will learn the keys to creating characters giving prominence to certain details of the figures (angular or rounded shapes, shadows, lights, as well as the variety of sizes), details of expressions; the keys to give fluidity and movement to the characters within the scene, so that the boys and girls are clear about the elements that will be used in the final vignette.

As Begoña Cerrillo explained, "the main objective is for them to know the keys that can help them develop characters, while letting their imagination run wild by creating their own stories." "In this way, they will be able to find a new medium through which to express themselves, while developing techniques, improving drawing and learning about a type of activity that can help them better convey their wishes," said the director.

The first of the pop art workshops, scheduled for May 14, will be dedicated to Keith Haring. Through his life and work we will meet one of the artistic icons of the SXX. An artist who, in the words of David Tejeiro, "has influenced American street art and has come to occupy a predominant role in the Berlin Wall, being the protagonist of the struggle for human rights, injustices and power."

In the classes, some of his most outstanding works will be known and from his simple characters, which will become more complex when the students know their meanings.

In this way, young people will meet one of the most prominent figures of Pop Art of the late twentieth century and will see other forms of artistic expression closer to their day to day.

"Those interested will work from the real experiences of each one, so that they can freely express their dreams and fears through this new medium and characters," explained Cerrillo, who has also announced that in the coming months, and Until January 2022, workshops of different artists of popular culture will be held.

Councilor David Tejeiro presents this activity aimed at girls and boys from 12 to 16 years old at the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Center.
