Torremolinos, February 15, 2021.

The Councilor for Culture of the Torremolinos City Council, David Tejeiro, today presented the first Torremolinos Comics Contest, an initiative aimed at “promoting creativity, fostering artistic expression and supporting interest in the world of comics in the city”, as explained by the mayor.

The works may be free thematic and technical and will be allowed to present until April 16 as many works as desired individually or collectively.

Tejeiro has detailed that the works can be presented from today until April 16, being able to participate, both individually and collectively, "people from all over the world, regardless of their place of residence." One of the objectives that the council has proposed for this legislature is to recover the contests to encourage the participation of people in the cultural life of the municipality and to give space to artists who are starting, "this is the first of many that we have planned organize”, added the councilor.

The councilor thanked the Pergamo Bookstore for its involvement in this project and the trust placed by its owners in this contest, the bases of which can be consulted on the Torremolinos Cultura website (https://torremolinoscultura.es). "We are counting on your collaboration since the awards will be in kind in an attempt to also involve local businesses in promoting culture and the consumption of culture, something essential if we want to continue growing," he pointed out.

The comic is considered the eighth art and has the particularity of addressing a very wide and varied audience, since it ranges from the juvenile genre to the graphic novel, which has been on the rise in recent times. "The profile of the creators is also quite diverse and that is why we hope to attract as much talent as possible in this first edition," said Tejeiro.

Each contestant or group can submit as many works as they wish, being possible to compete individually and collectively. From the Department of Culture they have reported that participation in this contest will be free and the works presented may be in black and white or color, with a maximum extension of 4 pages in DIN A4 format, on one side or with a proportional size.

The works have to be presented electronically through the email cultura@torremolinos.es. All those who want to sign up have to fill out the registration in a single email with a first file, called "Work + Title of the Work", which must contain only the work presented without any other information that can identify the author or group, and a second file, called "Request + Title of the Work", which will contain a form.

The prizes will be divided into two categories: one for up to 17 years (inclusive), where the first prize will be a check for 100 euros to be spent at the Pergamon Bookstore and the second prize will be a check for 50 euros also to be spent at the same bookstore . The second category will be for those over 18 years of age and the prizes will have the same amounts. Likewise, the Jury reserves the right to grant as many Honorary Accésits as it deems necessary.
