Torremolinos, December 19, 2020. The village of Santa Claus and the royal postman will not miss their appointment with Torremolinos this year. Despite the fact that sanitary circumstances limit the traditional celebrations typical of this time of year, the City Council has wanted to fill these special days with playful and festive content, adapting the proposals to the prevailing conditions caused by the pandemic.
In this sense, Mayor José Ortiz has pointed out that “Christmas is a wonderful time and celebrating it in the center of the city with this atmosphere, this lighting, makes us forget a little about the tragedy we have suffered, especially those people who have lost a relative or have suffered from the disease ”. The possibility of recovering a certain “normality” and offering alternatives to the little ones during the holidays so that they live this Christmas with joy and enthusiasm are the main objectives and that is why “I invite all the neighbors to always enjoy them complying with all protocols and security measures ”, he recalled.
Next to the village, the traditional Christmas market has also been launched that will remain on Avenida Palma de Mallorca until next January 5. Ortiz stressed that the center is a meeting point for all families and an enormous effort is being made together with companies to boost the commercial fabric. "We have started a campaign in which the merchants themselves are transmitting the message that you can enjoy Christmas, shopping, gastronomy and the good service and products of the city," the mayor stressed that has already announced that in a few days you will be able to enjoy new attractions in the center for these dates.
As every year, the residents of the city will be able to stroll through each of the eight stalls of the Christmas market. There you can find all kinds of artisan products and Christmas decorations, as well as some gastronomy stand. The stalls will be open from eleven in the morning until two, and from five in the afternoon until eight thirty.
Next to the village, the Christmas market will remain installed on Avenida Palma de Mallorca until next January 5
For his part, the Councilor for Culture, David Tejeiro, thanked "the responsibility that all the people who are passing through both the village and the market are showing, complying with all security measures." In addition, the mayor has pointed out that the decision to set up the village and the market has not been easy “but we have done it with more enthusiasm if possible than on previous occasions, because it has been a very hard year for everyone, children, adults , older, and we have considered it appropriate to seek that little bit of joy with which the little ones live these holidays ”.
The doors of the village will be open for boys and girls from Torremolinos to deliver their letters from five to eight, and on the 19th, 20, 26 and 27 from eleven to one in the morning and from five to eight. "We hope that people can have a good time with these activities and with the rest of the cultural offer that we have programmed for these dates, especially with the theatrical cycles that we have on weekends both in the Association Booth with the comedy theater , as in the Municipal Auditorium where the next two Sundays we will have two first-class works ”, Tejeiro indicated.
From the Culture area it is recalled that for the visit to the village and the market, the anti-Covid security measures must be respected at all times, with limited groups, respecting the safety distance both outside and inside and carrying the mask is mandatory. In addition, there will be the support of Civil Protection to ensure order and compliance with the rules.
