The Culture area of Torremolinos City Council promotes new activities to commemorate International Book Day (April 23). After launching the contest ‘Reinvent the cover of Alice in Wonderland’, Councilor David Tejeiro has announced the holding of a small Puppet Theater Series with which it is intended to bring literature closer to children.
Specifically, "two works will be performed on Saturdays, April 17 and 24, in the gardens of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Center that will be moved inside in case of rain," the mayor said. Both will start at 12.00 in the morning with free admission until full capacity is reached to maintain security measures against Covid-19.
The councilor stressed that "reading can be reached in very different ways and the theater, in this case the puppets, allow us to bring the books and their stories in a playful way to the boys and girls of the municipality." Thus, the first of the proposals focuses on the work of Hans Christian Andersen, while the second makes a review of one of the classics of world literature such as 'Don Quixote'.
On Saturday 17, ‘Andersen's Carriage of Dreams’ is performed, a unique puppet show on wheels in which four classic tales by Hans Christian Andersen are narrated. The representation is carried out by the Ángeles de Trapo company, which has already won the first prize for the best puppet show at the Festival Festititeres de Alicante.
The following Saturday 24 will be the turn of the work, also of puppets, of the 'Unforgettable Don Quixote', which consists of a fun family show in which, through humor, some passages from the first and second books of the famous Cervantes work.
In this sense, Tejeiro has declared that “from the Department of Culture it is important that we promote literature among the youngest of Torremolinos, since it is the best tool to promote their creativity and imagination, something that will help them in the future to develop as people and to have critical thinking”. "These works are presented on the occasion of International Book Day, but we encourage interest in reading every day of the year from the municipal libraries, with activities such as the Children's and Youth Reading Club the presentation of books, etc.", said the mayor.
Finally, the councilor responsible for Culture also recalled that the deadline for redrawing the cover of "Alice in Wonderland" is still open.
To commemorate International Book Day, two theatrical performances will be held with books as protagonists on Saturdays, April 17 and 24.
