Torremolinos, March 19, 2021.
The Culture area of ??the Torremolinos City Council adds attractions to continue turning the city into a great canvas that reflects the recent history of the municipality and highlights the ability of art to transform cities. This has been announced by the Councilor for Culture, David Tejeiro, who has signed a collaboration agreement with the director of the Hotel Princesa Solar, Plácido Soler, for the realization of a new mural on the facade of the building located on Avenida Carlota Alessandri.
“This is the first of the three artistic interventions that we are going to take to different parts of the city in the coming dates and it will consist of the reproduction of an image of Ava Gardner, the iconic American actress who visited Torremolinos in 1955 and whose image it joins that of other stars of the seventh art that we have in the city, such as Frank Sinatra and Brigitte Bardot”, explained the mayor.
According to Tejeiro, this project that is carried out thanks to a grant obtained by the delegation “will allow us to continue the work that has already been done in this regard and to complete that open-air museum that we already have in Torremolinos with murals similar to create new culturally attractive spaces that capture the attention of both the people who visit us and the people of Torremolinos themselves”. In addition to the significant aesthetic improvement of certain areas, the initiative seeks to promote cultural, tourist and recreational activity in the municipality.
The City Council has the artist NESUI to create a new mural on the façade of the Hotel Princesa Solar.
In a period in which culture and artists have been hard hit by the pandemic, the Torremolinos City Council acts as a patron of urban art, taking advantage of outdoor spaces and accommodating new cultural initiatives and activities that have not stopped being promoted since the Culture Promotion Delegation in recent months.
In addition, the council has chosen to take these artistic interventions to different areas of the town to give greater weight and visibility to the main tourist and cultural enclaves and attractions of Torremolinos, linking them with the cultural history of the municipality and the close tourism relationship -culture. That is why the next graffiti will also include other neighborhoods "that are going to be incorporated into this route of murals that we are going to complete."
The street artist NESUI, author of the murals of the Spain Shopping Center and the mural of Brigitte Bardot, will be in charge of reproducing the image of the protagonist of Mogambo. "It will be a graffiti with dimensions of 10x6 meters and we plan to start working after Easter," the councilor has detailed.
